Data from publicly available KFC information · Updated 10 August 2026. Prices are the typical US price and vary by location.
Four formats cover everything on this page. A la carte pieces let you buy exactly what you want, from $2.59 for a wing to $3.89 for a breast. Buckets run from the 8 pc. Chicken Bucket at $20.99 up to sixteen pieces. Combos add a side, a biscuit and a drink. Then there are the wings, sold as 6 pc. Hot & Spicy Wings at $7.49, 12 pc. Hot & Spicy Wings at $14.49 and 20 pc. Hot & Spicy Wings at $23.99. Those wings are marinated and double hand breaded, so the heat sits in the crust rather than in a sauce poured over the top, which is why they hold their crunch longer than a wet-sauced wing.
The flat-price value deals live on this page rather than on a separate one. The Taste of KFC 2 pc. Deal at $5.00 and the Taste of KFC 4 pc. Deal at $10.00 are the cheapest complete plates KFC sells, both at a flat price with mashed potatoes, gravy and a biscuit included. The wider promotion set changes week to week and sits on the deals page. Two things people look for here are on other menus: KFC chicken strips are sold under the name tenders on the KFC Chicken Tenders menu, and the Snacker, KFC's smallest sandwich, sits on the Sandwiches & Wraps menu from $2.99.
Five orders account for most of what leaves the counter. Here is what each one is, what it costs, and the situation it actually suits.
$20.99 · 920-2400 cal. Eight pieces of bone-in chicken and nothing else, which works out at $2.62 a piece. This is the order to build a table around when the sides are already sorted at home. If you want dark meat only, the 8 pc. Chicken Bucket Dark costs less again for the same count. Add sides yourself from the Sides menu and you will still come in under the 8 pc. Chicken Meal, which bundles two large sides and four biscuits.
$11.29 · 630-2020 cal. Three pieces with a side, a biscuit and a medium drink on one tray. The variety option gives you two breasts and a wing, which is unusually generous for a three piece and the reason this eats as a dinner rather than a lunch. The 3 pc. Chicken Big Box Meal adds a second side for well under what an individual side costs on its own, so it is worth the look before you order this one.
6 pc. Hot & Spicy Wings at $7.49, 12 pc. Hot & Spicy Wings at $14.49, 20 pc. Hot & Spicy Wings at $23.99. These wings are marinated and double hand breaded in the Extra Crispy coating, so the heat lives in the crust rather than in a sauce poured over the top. That is why they hold their crunch on the drive home in a way a wet-sauced wing does not. One caveat worth knowing before you size up: the price per wing barely moves between the three boxes, so buy the count you actually want.
A wing at $2.59, a drumstick or thigh at $3.29, a breast at $3.89. Single pieces are the most expensive way to eat KFC by weight, and the only way to get exactly the piece you want. These four are the only items in this category with a full published nutrition panel, which makes them the most useful pieces here for anyone counting anything.
$5.00 · 540-810 cal. A drumstick, a thigh, mashed potatoes with gravy and a buttery biscuit at a flat price. This is the cheapest complete plate KFC sells and, per piece of chicken, it undercuts every bucket on the menu while still including a side. The Taste of KFC 4 pc. Deal doubles it at exactly double the price, so the rate holds.
Almost every bone-in item here comes in more than one coating, and the choice changes the texture more than the price. This is what each one actually does to the chicken.
| Recipe | How it is made | What it eats like | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original Recipe | Hand breaded in the eleven herbs and spices blend, then pressure fried | Softer, thinner crust that clings to the meat; the seasoning is the point | Anyone who wants to taste the spice blend rather than the coating |
| Extra Crispy | Double hand breaded, no herb blend, fried in an open vat | Craggy, thick crust that shatters rather than gives | Crunch, and anything that has to survive a car journey |
| Nashville Hot | Extra Crispy chicken dunked in cayenne oil after frying | Slow-building heat that arrives after the first bite and stays | Eating straight away; the wet sauce softens the crust |
| Honey BBQ | Tossed in a sweet, smoky sauce after frying | Sticky and sweet with a vinegar edge behind it | Children, and anyone who finds the plain coating too salty |
Sauced versions are not a premium on every tray. The Nashville Hot 2 pc. Chicken Combo and the Original Honey BBQ 2 pc. Chicken Combo both sit within a few cents of the plain 2 pc. Chicken Combo, and on the three piece the sauced combos are the cheaper ones.
KFC publishes a full nutrition panel for the four a la carte pieces, which makes it possible to compare them properly rather than by feel. The figures below are KFC's own, for Original Recipe.
| Piece | Price | Calories | Protein | Sodium | Protein per dollar |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| breast | $3.89 | 390 kcal | 39 g | 1,190 mg | 10.0 g |
| thigh | $3.29 | 280 kcal | 19 g | 910 mg | 5.8 g |
| wing | $2.59 | 130 kcal | 10 g | 380 mg | 3.9 g |
| drumstick | $3.29 | 130 kcal | 12 g | 430 mg | 3.6 g |
The breast is not close. It carries almost three times the protein per dollar of a drumstick and more than twice that of a wing. The trade is sodium: one breast is 1,190 mg, which is 52% of a day's allowance before a side, a biscuit or a drink joins it.
Price per piece is the only fair way to compare a bucket against a combo, so here is the whole ladder in one place. Meals include sides and biscuits; buckets are chicken alone.
| Order | Price | Pieces | Per piece | What comes with it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Taste of KFC 4 pc. Deal | $10.00 | 4 | $2.50 | 2 mashed potatoes and gravy, 2 biscuits |
| 16 pc. Chicken Bucket | $36.99 | 16 | $2.31 | Chicken only |
| 8 pc. Chicken Bucket Dark | $18.99 | 8 | $2.37 | Chicken only, dark meat |
| 12 pc. Chicken Bucket | $29.29 | 12 | $2.44 | Chicken only |
| Build-A-Bucket | $20.00 | 8 | $2.50 | 4 individual sides, 4 biscuits |
| 8 pc. Chicken Bucket | $20.99 | 8 | $2.62 | Chicken only |
| Double Mash Meal | $20.00 | 7 | $2.86 | 2 large mashed potatoes and gravy, 4 biscuits |
| 16 pc. Chicken Meal | $49.29 | 16 | $3.08 | 4 large sides, 8 biscuits |
| 8 pc. Chicken Meal | $29.59 | 8 | $3.70 | 2 large sides, 4 biscuits |
The headline is the Taste of KFC 4 pc. Deal: at $2.50 a piece it matches the bulk buckets while still including two sides and two biscuits, which none of them do. For a table of four or more, the Build-A-Bucket does the same job at a larger scale.
| If you want | Order this | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| A full meal for one | 3 pc. Chicken Combo | Three pieces, a side, a biscuit and a drink on one tray for less than the parts |
| The most protein per dollar | Two breast pieces a la carte | 78 g of protein for under eight dollars, and nothing else on the tray |
| To feed four cheaply | Build-A-Bucket | Eight pieces, four sides and four biscuits at a flat price |
| Something to share while watching something | 20 pc. Hot & Spicy Wings | Twenty wings, eaten with fingers, and the crust survives sitting out |
| A meal for two people | Meal for Two: 5 pc. Chicken Combo | Five pieces, two sides, two biscuits and two drinks for roughly half the a la carte cost |
| Dinner for under six dollars | Taste of KFC 2 pc. Deal | Two pieces with mashed potatoes, gravy and a biscuit at a flat price |
| Heat | Nashville Hot 3 pc. Chicken Combo | Cayenne oil applied after frying, so the heat builds rather than hits |
Sides move a KFC bill and a KFC calorie count more than the chicken does. Build the exact tray on the nutrition calculator before you commit to it.
Two kinds run at once, and they behave differently. The first kind is permanent: flat-price plates that sit on the menu all year. The Taste of KFC 2 pc. Deal and the Taste of KFC 4 pc. Deal are the two on this page, and the Build-A-Bucket is the family sized version of the same idea.
The second kind rotates. National promotions run for a few weeks, franchisees opt into them individually, and a code that works at one restaurant may simply not appear at another. That is why an offer can look live online and refuse to apply at the counter. The deals page tracks what is running now, what each one is worth and what it needs before it applies, and the coupons page carries the codes themselves.
Three things people look for here are not bone-in chicken and so are not on this page. All three are one click away.
Chicken strips are what the menu now calls tenders: whole hand breaded pieces of white meat with no bone. A single a la carte tender costs $2.49, and boxes, combos and family meals run all the way up on the KFC Chicken Tenders menu. KFC Snackers are small sandwiches built on one tender with pickles and mayo on a brioche bun, from $2.99 on the Sandwiches & Wraps menu. Nuggets are the smallest boneless format, sold in boxes from five pieces to fifty on the KFC Chicken Nuggets menu.
| What you are after | What KFC calls it | Starts at | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chicken strips | Tenders | $2.49 | KFC Chicken Tenders menu |
| Snackers | KFC Snacker | $2.99 | Sandwiches & Wraps menu |
| Nuggets | Nuggets | $3.49 | KFC Chicken Nuggets menu |
| Popcorn chicken | Popcorn Chicken | $4.99 | Sides menu |
KFC publishes a full allergen breakdown for seven of the 31 items in this category: the four a la carte pieces and the three wing boxes. All seven are flagged for gluten, wheat and MSG, which is what a hand breaded coating means. Four of them also carry milk and eggs.
For the remaining items KFC states nothing, and this site does not guess. An absent allergen line on an item page means the brand has not published one, not that the item is free of anything. Fried chicken also shares fryers and preparation areas across the menu, so cross-contact is a real risk regardless of what any list says. Anyone ordering around an allergy should check KFC's current allergen information and speak to the restaurant.
Every current offer with its real price and the code you need.
Thirty one bone-in items: a la carte pieces from $2.59, buckets of eight to sixteen pieces, two to four piece combos with a side and a drink, Nashville Hot and Honey BBQ versions, and Hot & Spicy Wings. Every price above is the typical US figure, and franchisees set their own, so your restaurant may differ.
6 pc. Hot & Spicy Wings cost $7.49, 12 pc. Hot & Spicy Wings cost $14.49 and 20 pc. Hot & Spicy Wings cost $23.99. Worth knowing before you size up: they barely get cheaper per wing as the box grows, unlike the buckets.
On this menu, the Taste of KFC 2 pc. Deal at $5.00 and the Taste of KFC 4 pc. Deal at $10.00 are the standing flat-price offers. Promotional offers rotate, and franchisees opt into them individually, so the deals page carries what is live now with what each one actually requires.
Strips is the older name for what KFC now calls tenders: whole hand breaded pieces of white meat with no bone. They are not on this menu. A single a la carte tender costs $2.49, and the boxes, combos and meals are on the KFC Chicken Tenders menu.
$2.99. A KFC Snacker is one Original Recipe tender with pickles and mayo on a brioche bun, and it is the cheapest sandwich KFC sells. Snackers sit on the Sandwiches & Wraps menu rather than here, because they are sandwiches rather than bone-in chicken.
A single wing at $2.59 is the cheapest item. The cheapest complete meal is the Taste of KFC 2 pc. Deal at $5.00, which includes mashed potatoes, gravy and a biscuit.
The breast, by a wide margin. KFC publishes 39 g of protein for one Original Recipe breast against 19 g for a thigh and 10 g for a wing. At $3.89 that is ten grams of protein per dollar, almost three times what a drumstick returns.
They are different rather than better. Original Recipe is pressure fried and hand breaded in the eleven herbs and spices, so the crust is thinner and the seasoning comes through. Extra Crispy is double hand breaded with no herb blend, so it is crunchier and holds up far better on a journey home.
Two pieces per adult is the working figure, which is why the buckets scale in fours. Eight pieces feeds four, twelve feeds six and the 16 pc. Chicken Bucket feeds eight. Add roughly half a large side each on top.
